Airspace & Environment

Environment Menu Cards

NATS is at the heart of the aviation industry in the UK. We manage the controlled airspace over Britain and handle flights at its busiest airports.  By placing the environment at the core of our business, we are the first air traffic control company in the world to set a target to reduce CO2 emissions.

But to achieve targets you need a plan. We have been constructing a palette of opportunities like changes to our airspace, the way we operate air traffic control and how we work with our partners in the aviation industry.

These changes, we believe, will deliver us our target – what we’re doing now is consulting with our industry partners to pinpoint where each of the changes sit on the timeline between now and 2020.

The elements that make up the palette have been developed into a pack of interactive menu cards.  These cards are flexible and help you explore the NATS plan to reduce ATM CO2 emissions by an average of 10% per flight by 2020, against a baseline of 2006.

Each card offers a snapshot of what we’re planning.  By moving the cards around the screen in the attached tool, you can build your own vision of the air traffic system of the future.

The first four cards, climb, cruise, descent and airport outline the phases of flight where we believe we can make reductions in CO2.  The remaining cards cover the individual initiatives which will help us to move towards our goal.

Click and pick a card to explore the opportunities ahead of us to delivering improved environmental performance.
