Challenge

Training

An international ATC training facility was experiencing a significant increase in failure rates both through the training process and once operational, usually within the first 2 years. NATS, whose training experience is recognised globally, was engaged to review performance and offer an independent view of the whole training regime.

Solution

NATS was asked to provide an experienced and independent view of the whole training regime. We worked constructively with the training teams, analysing all the relevant areas:

  • recruitment and selection processes
  • course deliverables and materials
  • trainer capabilities
  • the relationship with current ATC staff
  • how staff were used in training

We have provided access to NATS training methods, course materials and relationships with other training/educational establishments. Our commitment included experienced, highly qualified NATS trainers in the client's facilities.

We drew up recommendations that were endorsed by the client and followed by an action plan designed to redress the current problems. NATS has continued to support the client during implementation.

Result

By optimising the selection, recruitment and training processes, students with more appropriate skills are entering the college, streamlining is more efficient and overall failure rates have now lowered, consistent with international benchmarks, resulting in improved return on investment.
