New general manager appointed at Manchester

National Air Traffic Services ( NATS) has announced the appointment of  Alex Bristol to the position of General Manager at Manchester, with effect from January 1, with responsibility for en route and airport air traffic services. He succeeds Al Lewis who is retiring from the Company after forty years.

Ian Hall, NATS’ Director of Operations, said today: “I am delighted that Alex Bristol has agreed to move from Farnborough to Manchester and succeed Al Lewis when he retires at the end of the December. He is a worthy successor.”

“Our operation at Manchester is unique in that it supports both en route and airport air traffic operations and requires a specific set of management skills to balance the needs of airport and airline customers.”

He added: “Over the years, Al Lewis has worked in a variety of management positions, at a number of NATS locations and his understanding of our systems and infrastructure as well as his ability to share his experience, has made his contribution to the business very special.”

Alex Bristol said: “I am relishing the opportunity to work at Manchester and support the work of our dedicated team there. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Farnborough. The team made a huge contribution to the success of the 2004 Airshow and I am very glad to have been involved in NATS’ industry-wide initiative to reduce level busts.”

In his new role, he will report to Ian Hall and also to Brandon Chapman, NATS’ Director Airport Services on airport related matters. Jon Proudlove, Manager Air Traffic Services at Manchester, will report to Alex.

Alex Bristol moved to Farnborough to become Manager Air Traffic Services in October 2003. He was previously based at West Drayton. Until his successor is appointed, NATS’ Unit Training Manager for Farnborough, Sarah Lee, will assume responsibility for NATS’ activities at the airport.
