ILS Thomson-CSF 381T Depth B Maintenance

Course Code:

AHPF1550

To train Engineers to set up and maintain the Thomson CSF 381T ILS system to the standard operating conditions laid down in the appropriate technical document, and to enable the diagnosis of faults in the system of the level of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs).

Course Description:

This course assumes a good knowledge of ILS principles. It covers the theory of operation of the Thomson ILS system sufficient to carry out the approved maintenance and repair functions required in an airfield environment. A high practical content is included and all maintenance procedures will be practised.
It is recommended that the Open Learning course Thomson ILS Overview (AHPC1600) is studied immediately before this course.

Training Objectives:

On completion of the course all students will be able to:

  • Describe, with the aid of schematic block diagrams, the function and operation of the system in terms of signal flow format.
  • Set up and adjust the system to standard operating conditions within the limits defined in the maintenance schedule.
  • Perform routine tests and inspections to verify normal operational status of the system, including control and protection circuits and power supply units.
  • Make any adjustments necessary to maintain the operational status of the system within the limits defined in the maintenance schedule.
  • Diagnose faults in the system down to Line Replaceable Unit level, making efficient use of special test equipment, tools and devices provided fro system maintenance, including built in test facilities.
  • Restore the system to operational service by substituting serviceable Line Replacement Units where necessary.
  • State the functions of all relevant documentation.

In addition, Support Group students will be able to:-

  • Describe, with the aid of block schematic diagrams, the function and operation of each unit in terms of signal format.
  • Set up and adjust the system for system commissioning.
  • Perform routine tests and inspections to verify normal operational status of the system, including control and protection circuit, power supply units, aerials and aerial feeders. ILS Principles to the standard of the NATS TTS ILS Principles course (TTR 1190).
