Course Code:
AHPF1360
Course Aims:
The aim of this course is to train Air Traffic Engineers to maintain serviceability of the SMPE equipment. This will be achieved with theory training in SMPE systems coupled with practical training designed to ensure the student is capable of maintaining the equipment in a serviceable state in an operational environment.
Course Description:
The Plot Extractor is dealt with as a system and covered to block diagram level, giving as much information as time allows on signal routing and format. The signal processing techniques are described, including the microprocessor area. Practical exercises will be carried out.
Training Objectives:
On completion of the course, given access to appropriate technical documentation with all relevant circuit and block diagrams, the student will be able to:
- State the principles of operation of the SMPE and describe the functions of each equipment block contained in a block diagram of the overall system.
- Describe accurately, the required input, inter-connecting and output signals within the system and the effect of any variations in them.
- List all the system timings required to maintain normal operation of the equipment.
- Load and run SMPE diagnostic and test software.
- Use equipment control facilities, including the associated keyboard, printer and control panel to run the equipment within stated operating parameters.
- Identify major sub-assemblies in the system.
- Run-up the equipment to operational status as detailed in the appropriate technical manual.
- Run-up the equipment to operational status as detailed in the appropriate technical manual.
- Load programs and perform the approved tests to determine the operational status of the equipment.
- Diagnose faults, in the event of recognised equipment failure down to PCB level with minimum delay.
Course Pre-requisites:
SSR 950, Digital Techniques or Digital Applications, Microprocessor Techniques.
