Course Aims:
The aim of the course is to provide Engineers with the necessary background knowledge of basic ILS principles as a pre-requisite to further in-depth ILS equipment courses.
Course Description:
This course is available as a computer based interactive learning module. The basic concepts and principles of ILS are taught using a multimedia computer. The training package consists of a CD-Rom, a VHS video, and a course handbook. This course is a prerequisite for the ILS Competency Assessment Course (AHPF2500), and Thomson ILS (AHPF1550).
Training Objectives:
On completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate familiarity with the basic concepts of current Instrument Landing Systems
- Demonstrate familiarity with the appropriate terms, specifications and ICAO categories applied to ILS operations
- Identify the basic concepts applied to ILS aerials
- List and identify the essential modules for an ILS localiser, ILS glide path and associated equipments
- Demonstrate familiarity with the principles of ILS Flight Inspection techniques
