At NATS we take our environmental responsibilities seriously and do all we can to ensure that we help our customers operate as efficiently as possible.
Our particular responsibility is the safe and efficient management of UK airspace. Under our licence from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) we are required to make the most efficient overall use of airspace, and to be capable of meeting reasonable levels of overall demand.
Since our customers' demand is changing all the time, we constantly review our airspace management and make proposals for airspace changes we believe are necessary.
NATS is actively investigating ways of mitigating the environmental impact of aviation through improved procedures, new technology and partnerships within the industry. We have joined up with the rest of the UK industry through the Sustainable Aviation initiative to seek new ways of working together.
Airspace & Safety Initiative
NATS is playing a significant role in the Airspace & Safety Initiative (ASI). The ASI is a joint initiative with the Civil Aviation Authority, Ministry of Defence, general aviation user groups and the Airport Operators Association, to investigate and tackle safety risks in UK airspace.
